Jaswinder Bhalla, a well-known Punjabi actor and comedian, was widely respected for his work in films, on stage, and in the classroom. He passed away on August 22, 2025, at the age of 65. He had suffered a brain stroke two days earlier and was being treated at Fortis Hospital in Mohali.

Bhalla was born on May 4, 1960, in the city of Ludhiana in Punjab. He grew up in Doraha, a town in the same region. Apart from acting, he was also a teacher. He studied agriculture and received a Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension. He later worked at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), where he became the head of the Extension Education Department. He retired in 2020. Many students and teachers remembered him as someone who made learning interesting and enjoyable.

His journey in comedy started in 1975 when he was still a student. He performed for All India Radio and soon became popular for his voice and humor. In 1988, he started a comedy audio series called Chhankata with his friend Bal Mukund Sharma. This series became very popular in Punjabi homes. He created memorable characters such as Chacha Chatar Singh, Bhana the NRI, and JB. These characters told funny stories that also pointed out real problems in society. His comedy spoke about issues like politics, changing family values, and everyday struggles.

In 1998, Bhalla acted in his first Punjabi film Mahaul Theek Hai, directed by Jaspal Bhatti. After that, he was seen in many famous Punjabi films like Carry On Jatta, Jatt & Juliet, Mr & Mrs 420, and Manje Bistre. In Carry On Jatta, he played a lawyer named Advocate Dhillon. That role made people laugh across generations and is remembered even today.

People across India and abroad felt sad when they heard about his passing. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited his home and said Jaswinder Bhalla would always be remembered, especially for his character Chacha Chatar. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar also shared a message and said he was deeply sorry to hear the news. Many other actors, politicians, and fans shared their memories and love for Bhalla on social media.

One story that people remembered was about a schoolgirl who had taken a selfie with Bhalla but did not have a mobile phone to see the photo. Bhalla made sure the photo went viral so she could find it easily. It showed how he cared about others, even in small ways.

He was cremated on August 23 at the Balongi Cremation Ground in Mohali. Family, friends, fans, and people from the film and education fields gathered to pay their last respects.

Jaswinder Bhalla’s life was about more than making people laugh. He used comedy to teach and to bring people together. He respected his roots, served as a teacher, and entertained millions. Even though he is no longer here, his voice, his characters, and his values will continue to be remembered. His legacy lives on in his films, his comedy albums, and the hearts of the people who admired him.
