India had a proud moment at the U20 World Wrestling Championships 2025, held in Samokov, Bulgaria. Two young Indian wrestlers, Reena and Priya Malik, won silver medals in their events.
Reena took part in the 55 kg women’s freestyle category. She performed well in all her matches. In the semifinal, she won 11–1. In the final match, she faced Everest Leydecker from the United States and lost 2–10. Reena got a silver medal and added another medal to India’s total.
Priya Malik competed in the 76 kg category. She won her semifinal by fall, which means she pinned her opponent. In the final, she faced Nadia Sokolovska from Ukraine. Priya lost the match by fall and also got a silver medal.
India’s total medal count at the championship went up to five medals. This includes a gold medal won by Tapsya Yadav in the 65 kg category. The U20 championship is an important event to find future talent in wrestling. This year, Indian wrestlers showed that they are ready to succeed.
Reena and Priya have shown that young athletes in India can do well on the world stage. Their success is also a good sign for the future of women’s wrestling in the country. Many young wrestlers in India will now look up to them and get motivated to train harder and aim high.
